BRASS STAFF
Brian Timmons
Brass Caption Head
Dr. Brian P. Timmons is the District Music Coordinator (6-12) for Bergenfield Public Schools and Director of Bands at Bergenfield High School, where he leads the Honors Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, and teaches AP Music Theory. He also directs the Seton Hall University Band and serves as an adjunct professor at William Paterson University. Timmons holds a Doctor of Music Education from Liberty University, a Master of Arts in Wind Conducting from Hofstra University, and a Bachelor of Music from William Paterson University. His ensembles have performed at prestigious venues like NJPAC, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall.
A sought-after guest conductor, he has led numerous ensembles, including the Ridgewood Concert Band, MEBCI HS and MS Honor Bands, the North Jersey Concert Band, the Imperial Brass and the New Jersey Choral Society. He is President of the North Jersey Band Festival and a former President of the Music Educators of Bergen County, where he remains treasurer.
Recognized as a Yale Distinguished Music Educator (2013) and one of “50 Directors Who Make a Difference” (2018), Timmons also serves on the faculty of the John Philip Sousa National High School Honor Band. He lives in Bergenfield with his wife Megan, and their children Kaleigh, Alanna, and Declan.
Colleen Mounts
Brass Technician
Colleen Mounts has spent a majority of her music career working with marching bands throughout the United States to include Indiana, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Georgia, North Carolina, California and West Virginia. She is currently working as a Music Teacher in Berkeley County Schools and finishing up her Masters degree in Music Education. Her marching career includes Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps in 2007, the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps in 2008 and 2009, the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps in 2012, and the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps in 2013. She then went on to teach as a member of the brass staff with Pioneer in 2015 and 2016 and Southwind in 2017 and 2018.
Colleen specializes in high brass as well as working with drum majors. She is currently an instructor at Musselman High School in Inwood, West Virginia and serves as a judge and clinician for bands on the East Coast.
Richard Mounts
Brass Technician
Richard Mounts, a native of Hagerstown, Maryland, has demonstrated a lifelong passion for music and the tuba. In high school, he was selected for the 2011 United States Army All-American Marching Band. In 2013, he marched with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps as a contra player. Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a Fleet Marine Musician on Tuba. For almost 8 years, Richard served faithfully and honorably with both the 2d Marine Division Band and the 1st Marine Division Band. Additionally, Richard served as an assistant Drum Major for the 1st Marine Division Band, leading the band on the march for military ceremonies, parades, dedications, and a multinational composite band.
In March 2025, Richard retired from active duty and returned to the East Coast. He now studies Business at Shepherd University and continues to play his tuba in multiple ensembles. Richard works with the Musselman High School music program alongside his wife, helping them, and the state of West Virginia, earn its first Atlantic Coast Championship in 2025.
Maddy Heintz
Drum Major Technician
Maddy Heintz is a student at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, currently pursuing a degree in Music Education. Both a clarinetist and trumpeter, she has been in numerous classical and jazz ensembles. She has also performed with a number of renowned drum corps over the years – the Boston Crusaders, The Cadets, and most recently the former head drum major of the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2024. Outside of drum corps, she is a music and visual tech at both Gene Tomas High School in Richmond, Texas, and Coral Reef High School in Miami, Florida. Devoted to providing world-class education to as many people as possible, Maddy is eager to be a moving part in establishing this program and building a legacy of precision and excellence.
GUARD STAFF
PJ Tankard
Guard Designer/Supervisor
PJ Tankard began his career in the marching arts as a member of the Elizabeth High School Marching Band in Elizabeth, NJ. His marching experience includes Alter Ego, Black Watch, The Bushwackers, Jersey Surf, and The Cadets. His teaching experience ranges from novice through the world level. He previously taught the following ensembles: Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps (2005 Div 3 Champions, 2006 Div 3 Bronze Medalist), Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps, Union HS, West Orange HS (SA through SW and the 2014 SO Silver Medalist), AMP Winter Guard (2017-Present) and Madison Scouts (2021-Present). For the past four years, he has been a color guard and visual adjudicator for USBands and Mid-Atlantic Indoor Network.
Currently, PJ lives in Springfield, NJ and works at a Home Infusion/Specialty Pharmacy as the Director of Contract Management.
Brianna Arndt
Guard Technician
Brianna brings over nine years of experience in the marching and color guard arts, spanning scholastic, collegiate, independent, and alumni ensembles, with a growing focus on instruction, choreography development, and visual design. Her performance background includes three years with McDowell High School and four years at Mercyhurst University, where she developed a strong foundation in performance technique, ensemble training, and visual clarity. She remains actively connected to the program through participation in the McDowell alumni Homecoming Parade.
At the national level, Brianna marched with Drum Corps International (DCI) as a member of the Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps during the 2023 Open Class season, followed by Rogues Hollow Regiment in the 2024–2025 All-Age Open Class seasons. These experiences sharpened her understanding of achievement-based training, ensemble pacing, and performer accountability.
In the winter circuit, Brianna has seven seasons of experience with Winter Guard International (WGI), including six years with Lake Erie Regiment Independent A and one year with Lake Erie Regiment Independent World. Performing at multiple competitive levels has given her a clear perspective on skill progression, curriculum design, and long-term performer development.
Alongside performance, Brianna has a strong background in art and design, which directly informs her approach to uniform design, visual storytelling, and choreography construction. She enjoys building choreography that balances musicality, clarity, and teachability, and she regularly shares choreography samples, design concepts, and instructional tutorials to help newer guard members develop strong technique, confidence, and performance awareness.
Her goal as an educator and designer is to create accessible, intentional visual programs that challenge performers while supporting their growth—both technically and artistically.
PERCUSSION STAFF
Scott Kittrell
Percussion Caption Head
Scott Kittrell has been involved with the Marching Arts since 1990, marching with multiple DCI Finalist Corps. After DCI he marched in at the time was DCA and is now DCI All Age. In 1995 and 1996 he marched with the Westshoremen winning high drums for two years straight. In 1996 the Westshoremen won the DCA Championship. Scott started his teaching career in 1993. Through the years he has taught across the eastern United States. He has won multiple indoor and outdoor percussion titles.
Scott became Percussion Caption Head for Fusion Core and stayed there for two seasons until the corps relocated to Florida. Scott also is a percussion judge and has judged multiple shows over the years. He is currently Percussion Director at Sherando High School in Virginia.
Scott is honored and looking forward to helping build Legacy into a highly competitive Drum and Bugle Corps.
Dr James Latten
Percussion Technician
Dr. James Latten is a Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Music at Juniata College, where he has been a central figure in the College’s music program since joining the faculty in 1997 and assuming full-time leadership of the wind and percussion ensembles in 2002. He holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from Penn State University (2003), where he also served as a doctoral graduate assistant with the Penn State Bands and contributed to the Penn State Indoor Drumline from 1997 to 2000. Earlier, he earned a Master of Music Education from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington in 1990 and developed foundational teaching and conducting skills that would define his career. Dr. Latten’s marching experience includes performances with the 1984 Empire Statesmen and the 1985 Garfield Cadets, both prominent drum and bugle corps with deep histories in competitive marching arts. He has also marched with the Rochester Crusaders (1988, 1990) and Syracuse Brigadiers (1992, 1994), bringing firsthand expertise in high-level ensemble performance to his students. Dr. Latten is widely respected for his work as an educator, conductor, arranger, and adjudicator across symphonic and marching ensembles, and his influence extends through clinics, ensemble direction, and scholarship. His teaching blends rigorous musicianship with a deep commitment to student growth, making him a cornerstone of music education at Juniata.
Jacob Derges
Percussion Technician Bass
Jacob Derges began his marching career with the Shenandoah University Marching Band, where he was a member during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. His drum corps experience includes the Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps, where he marched during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Jacob is currently pursuing a degree in Music Education at Shenandoah University and is expected to graduate in 2027. He has served as a percussion instructor at Sherando High School during the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 seasons, working closely with the percussion section.
Jacob will be serving as the Bass Drum Technician and is excited to help students grow musically while contributing to a strong and supportive ensemble environment. His instructors and mentors include Matt Penland, Kevin Hanrahan, Karli Viña, and Chris Braun.
Dr Sean Millman
Percussion Technician Snare
Equal parts performer, scholar, arranger, and coach, Sean Millman is an American drummer-percussionist and deliberate practice scholar. Dr. Millman is a New York-trained performing artist and earned a Ph.D. in Percussion Performance from NYU Steinhardt.
Dr. Millman joined the drumset roster for Disney Cruise Line in 2025, after previously sailing with Holland America Line. Sean’s commercial performance experience spans over 30 countries across four continents. Work on land includes playing at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, National Sawdust, and Off-Broadway houses across New York City. His undergraduate and master’s degree were earned from the University of Florida.
Sean’s collegiate teaching history includes Adjunct Instructor of Percussion for MSSU, Graduate Adjunct at NYU, and GA at UF; he held the post of Interim Band Director at Eastside HS in Gainesville, FL in Fall 2024. Sean has taught and written for percussion sections across North Florida, and was the percussion arranger for Steel City Ambassadors 2024 and 2025.

Derique Young
Percussion Technician Snare
Derique Young was born in Port Arthur, Tx and Served in the US Army as a Combat Artilleryman. His marching journey began with the Prairie View A&M University Marching Storm, where I proudly performed from 2008–2013, including the honor of marching in the 2009 Rose Bowl Parade. In 2010, He expanded his career into the drum corps world with Gulf Coast Sound Drum and Bugle Corps (DCA) on tenors, and the same year performed on synth with Imperial Percussion Theater (WGI). In 2014, He helped create the Houston Rockets Drumline and also performing on tenors. He later taught percussion at Sharpstown High School in Houston, where his students achieved multiple honors, including 1st place in Solo and Ensemble, Best Jazz Percussion, and several All-State medals.
On the international stage, he marched and performed with the Blue Devils International Corps, touring Europe, and in 2015, he performed with the Top Secret Drum Corps at the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland. In 2016, he became percussion arranger with Bayou City Blues Drum and Bugle Corps, where we proudly performed at DCI Southeast SoundSport and recieved a gold rating. More recently, he performed at the first-ever DCI All-Age Inaugural in 2024 with Fusion Core on snare, and in 2025, He marched with the Long Island Sunrisers, serving as Tenor Section Leader.
Academically, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Prairie View A&M University, and is currently pursuing hus Master’s in Music Composition for Film, TV, and Games at Berklee College of Music (Online).
As a performer, educator, and leader in the marching arts, his goal is not only to continue advancing my artistry but also to create opportunities for ensembles such as the Long Island Sunrisers to build musicians for the world of music that they are about to pursue!
DRILL STAFF
JOSH BRENNEIS
VISUAL CAPTION HEAD
Josh Brenneis is an active visual clinician, adjudicator and drill designer from Coral Springs, Florida, who works with marching music programs across the country. He began his DCI career as a performer with the Magic of Orlando in 2004 and later joined The Cadets for the 2006 and 2007 seasons, where he aged out in Pasadena, Calif. Since 2007, Josh has been working with many Florida marching bands that have been successful in both the FMBC and BOA circuits.
Over the last 10+ years, he has held the Visual Caption Head role with Jupiter High School, Stoneman Douglas High School, West Broward High School and Park Vista High School. All ensembles achieved multiple FMBC State Championships and High Visual awards during his time, including Finals appearances and High Visual awards in Bands of America Regionals. Josh continues to write drill for many highly competitive marching bands all over the country.
Josh has been the visual caption head of STRYKE Wynds since 2016 where they won WGI open class in Dayton in his first year as the visual caption head. In 2017 the ensemble was promoted to the WGI World Class division and have received a medal in every single season they have attended the World Championships. In 2022, he became the visual designer of Wynds, winning world championships in both 2023 and 2024
He has been teaching World Class Drum Corps since 2011. He was most recently the Visual Caption Head of The Cadets from 2020-2023. In 2024 he served as a Lead Visual Instructor for the Santa Clara Vanguard. He has also worked with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from San Antonio Texas. Josh is extremely excited to be joining Legacy this season as the Visual Caption Head!
ADMINISTRATION & OPERATIONS
DEAVEN KNOWLES
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Deaven Knowles currently serves as the Assistant Corps Director for Legacy Drum and Bugle Corps. Prior to this role, he was a member of the administrative team for Memphis Blues Drum and Bugle Corps during the 2025 season, where he contributed to the operational and logistical success of the ensemble.
He also holds the position of Assistant Director of Bands at Hopkinsville High School in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, where he has helped foster significant growth across the concert, jazz, and marching programs. Deaven earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee.
He is honored to be part of the Legacy team and is excited about the opportunity to help lead and inspire the next generation of performers.
MIKE WHEELER
CLINIC COORDINATOR
Mike Wheeler, a native of northwest Pennsylvania, graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Music Education. Over the course of his 33-year career with the Northwestern School District, he taught instrumental, vocal, and general music, directed the marching band to multiple state and circuit championships, founded handbell choirs at both the high school and elementary levels, and worked with numerous bands throughout NW PA.
A lifelong drum and bugle corps fan and diehard supporter of The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, he also volunteered with the corps during their time in Erie, PA. Retired since 2023, he remains active in the Marching Arts activity and is excited to bring his experience and passion to Legacy.
BEN KARIC
MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR
Ben is responsible for supporting recruitment efforts and helping create a positive and engaging experience for members throughout the season.
He brings a strong background in both performance and leadership within the drum corps activity. He previously served as Corps Director for Steel City Ambassadors Drum & Bugle Corps from 2023 through 2025, overseeing organizational operations and member development. In addition, he worked as Media & Marketing Manager for Rogues Hollow Regiment in 2021, contributing to the corps’ outreach and public presence.
As a performer, Ben is a well-rounded musician with a primary focus on percussion. His marching experience includes The White Sabers Drum & Bugle Corps (2022), Rogues Hollow Regiment (2021), and North Coast Brass Company (2023–2024), where he developed a strong foundation in musicianship, ensemble performance, and discipline.
Outside of drum corps, Ben works in the construction industry and resides in Erie, Pennsylvania. He is passionate about fostering growth, leadership, and excellence in the next generation of performers.
HENRY WUDARCZYK
IT COORDINATOR
Henry is deeply committed to nonprofit and community initiatives, with a long-standing record of leadership and impact. He is a founding member of the Cardinal Drum & Bugle Corps Alumni Association, where he played a key role in planning, operations, and coordination of local DCI competitions. Over more than two decades, the organization awarded over $100,000 in music scholarships to DCI corps participants.
A lifelong supporter of the marching arts, Henry marched with the Beverly Cardinals from 1969 to 1975 and later taught drill for local drum corps and marching bands. His continued involvement reflects a passion for performance, discipline, and mentorship, values that carry through both his professional career and community contributions.
He also serves on the executive committee of the Frankies Voice Memorial Fund, supporting operations and digital presence for an organization dedicated to combating substance abuse in young adults. Through its annual fundraising efforts, the organization has raised and donated approximately $200,000 to support the North Shore Recovery High School.
He holds a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from Bentley University. His career reflects a consistent focus on building scalable systems, and delivering reliable, client-centered solutions in complex environments.
